The Larry Chair is a design project centered around learning and play for children between 1-5. Commissioned by Ulferts Kids Furniture Company (located in Richmond, BC) and in collaboration with UBC (Center for Advanced Wood Processing), Jeremy Lee designed a foundational piece aiming to challenge the lack of attention to wood design and local production in the West Coast including innovation and creativity of chair industries over the years. This humble looking chair is designed, produced and assembled in BC and more importantly, addresses needs of educators and children in regards to sitting posture, space allocation/efficiency, accessibility/stowability and fostering imagination. The name Larry, (derived after the shape of the cantilever) personifies a fun, wise and friendly companion that kids can interact, relate and ultimately grow up with.
